What We Believe

Our Biblical Foundations as an Assemblies of God Church

Olive Chapel is a Spirit-filled, Bible-based church serving New Carlisle, Indiana. As part of the Assemblies of God fellowship, we joyfully affirm the 16 Fundamental Truths that outline our core Christian beliefs. These doctrines reflect our commitment to Scripture, the work of the Holy Spirit, the mission of the Church, and the hope we have in Jesus Christ. Below is an overview of the foundational truths we uphold as followers of Christ.

1. The Scriptures Inspired

The Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, are verbally inspired of God and are the revelation of God to man, the infallible, authoritative rule of faith and conduct.

Scriptures: 2 Timothy 3:15–17; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Peter 1:21

2. The One True God

The one true God has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent “I AM,” the Creator and Redeemer of mankind. He exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Scriptures: Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 43:10–11; Matthew 28:19; Luke 3:22

3. The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God.
His deity is shown by His:

  • Virgin birth

  • Sinless life

  • Miracles

  • Atoning death

  • Bodily resurrection

  • Exaltation
    Scriptures: Matt. 1:23; Heb. 7:26; Acts 2:22; 1 Cor. 15:3–4; etc.

4. The Fall of Man

Man was created good and upright, but by voluntary transgression fell, bringing physical and spiritual death.

Scriptures: Genesis 1:26–27; Genesis 3; Romans 5:12–19

5. The Salvation of Man

Redemption comes only through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.

  • Conditions: repentance and faith in Christ

  • Evidence: inward witness of the Spirit; outward life of righteousness

    Scriptures: Luke 24:47; John 3:3; Ephesians 2:8

6. The Ordinances of the Church

a. Baptism in Water (immersion)
b. Holy Communion (the Lord’s Supper)

7. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit

All believers should earnestly seek the baptism in the Holy Spirit. It brings power for life and service, deeper reverence for God, and intensified dedication to His work.

Scriptures: Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4–8; 1 Cor. 12

8. The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit

The initial physical sign of Spirit baptism is speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.

Scriptures: Acts 2:4

9. Sanctification

Sanctification is separation from evil and dedication to God. It is both instantaneous and progressive as we yield to the Holy Spirit.

Scriptures: Romans 12:1–2; Hebrews 12:14

10. The Church and Its Mission

The Church is the Body of Christ with a fourfold mission to:

  1. Evangelize the world

  2. Worship God

  3. Disciple believers

  4. Show compassion

    Scriptures: Matt. 28:19–20; Acts 1:8; Eph. 4:11–16

11. The Ministry

God calls ministers to lead the Church in evangelizing, worshiping, discipling, and compassion ministries.
